A New California Wildfire Breaks Out in LA as a Million People Face Days Without Power
The Getty Fire started on the 405 West in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood on Monday. This fire began as the Kincade and Tick Fires were still burning, and the area that the Getty fire is affecting is home to celebrities and houses that are worth a lot of money. Mandatory evacuations are in place for certain areas, including Mt. Saint Mary's University and UCLA.

Democrats Threaten Contempt After White House Official Refuses to Testify
House Democrats are considering charging a White House official with contempt after he ignored a subpoena and did not show up at the Capitol on Monday morning. The official was supposed to testify in front of the House in regards to the impeachment inquiry currently being investigated by Democrats. In a lawsuit filed by Charles Kupperman, deputy to former national security advisor John Bolton, he states that the request for him to show up before Congress is not backed up by the law since he is currently a private citizen. Rep. Adam Schiff stated that Democrats will continue to investigate, and will not allow their investigation to be slowed down in the courts.

Body Cam Footage Shows San Bernardino Officer Fatally Shoot Man With Hands in the Air
A San Bernardino police officer is no longer working with the force more than a year after he shot and killed a man who had followed instructions to drop a gun he was holding. Richard John Sanchez was walking towards officers with his hands in the air when Brandon Gaddie shot him. The department did not state whether Gaddie had been fired or if he resigned, but said that his "decision making did not meet the standards held by our department or the community we serve." The district attorney's office is now opening an investigation to determine whether or not Gaddie's actions were against the law.

Working Americans are Getting Less Sleep, Especially Those Who Save Our Lives
The number of Americans getting less than seven hours of sleep per night is currently increasing. Those who are suffering the most are the ones we look to in order to save our lives: police officers and healthcare workers, as well as people working in the transportation industry, like truck drivers. Researchers from Ball State University looked at a recent study and found that among the 150,000 workers in different fields who self reported sleep duration between 2010-2018, the prevalence of sleep deprivation jumped from 30.9% in 2010 to 35.6% in 2018. This number was even worse for police officers and healthcare workers, half of whom reported getting as little as five hours of sleep a night.

Republicans Feel Anxious and Adrift Defending Trump Amid Impeachment Inquiry
Republicans are beginning to feel frustrated with the fact that there is no valid defense for how the president has been behaving as the impeachment inquiry begins its second month. Trump's allies have begun to say that the investigation is secretive and corrupt, which has comes after testimony that has caused even more damage to the president and his advisors. The testimony was in regards to Trump and his advisors taking control of the Ukranian government for the president's own political goals.
