California gets ready for more wildfires and power outages as the weather refuses to cooperate

According to Los Angeles Fire Chief Patrick Butler, 40 acres of fire ignited in Pacific Palisades on Monday. Windy conditions continued this week and 40 homes are threatened in the area. About 209,00 homes are in risk of having their power shut down to prevent the wildfires from escalating.

L.A. County Health Officials Report First Flu-Related Death in 2019-2020 Season

Thousands of people die or are hospitalized every year from a flu-related virus. On Oct. 21, the Los Angeles County officials reported the first flu death in 2019-2020 season. According to the Department of Public Health, a middle aged patient lost their life from the virus. Officials encourage babies 6 months and older to get the shot in order to help prevent the flu. Officials also remind citizens to take extra care of their health by washing their hands and covering their mouth to prevent any virus from spreading.

El Niño weather events are about to become more extreme thanks to climate change, study says

Climate change will cause El Niños to become stronger, reports show. The stronger El Niños will cause a drought in areas like Australia and India. In 1997, El Niño was recorded as the most powerful Southern Oscillation events in history. It resulted in droughts and flooding across the world. El Niño will cause the water to become warmer and events will become stronger as El Niño gradually grows.

Facebook Announces $1B Investment To Address California’s Affordable Housing Crisis

On Oct. 22, Facebook announced an $1 billion dollar investment in collaboration with California to push towards affordable housing. Funds will push for communities in the San Francisco Bay area. Facebook is based in Menlo Park, and the investment will help provide Facebook offices in surrounding communities.

Why Are California Gas Prices So High? Gov. Newsom Launches Investigation To Find Out

Gov. Newsom launched an investigation to research the rise in prices of gas in California. In California the average cost of gas is $4.14 per gallon, compared to the national average of $2.65 per gallon. The Western States Petroleum Assosiaction reported California's gasoline fuel and taxes are accounted for the first $1.07 per gallon. California is known for being the strictest state to have prices of gasoline so high.
