Emirates NBA Cup Thriller

This recent season, however, began with a new start for Golden State, one without Klay Thompson. Klay had felt disrespected by Golden State management because of their offer being less than what he felt owed. Although he had lost a step due to injuries that sidelined him for two years, he was integral to their 4th championship.

When Klay decided to sign with the Dallas Mavericks during the offseason it was no surprise. The Dallas Mavericks went all the way to the NBA Finals and the contract they offered was higher in pay than what the Warriors offered.

Fans were saddened to see Klay leave, but Golden State still has much love for Klay as was shown by when he finally returned to Golden State with the new team under dire circumstances.

The Warriors had left captain hats for each fan in the arena, as Klay Thompson is known for being a boatsman and wearing one as well. They also welcomed him back with a video showing his highlights with the team honoring him for all the achievements he brought there.

At the end of the day this was still a game, a tournament game no less. The second year since its introduction with a new name but stakes all the same, The Emirates NBA Cup. An in-season tournament put in place to give more weight to the in-season games and not only make it compelling for fans but create a competitive atmosphere for the players

As whoever wins this game has a chance to make it into the next round of play. This game was not only a welcome home game to Klay, but a chance to stick it to Golden States management.

Curry fouled Klay during the first play causing him to shoot two free throws and throughout the game there was a fiery competitiveness that filled the air. Klay even did Curry’s signature shimmy celebration after hitting a shot. Curry followed that by trash talking Klay after hitting a floater over him and drawing the foul.

The Warriors were not going down easily as they showed off their new style of play including a 12-man rotation, more ball movements, 3-point attempts and a stronger defensive presence.

The game came down to the wire and Klay stepped up for The Mavericks, something he was synonymous with doing for the Warriors. He scored eight points in the span of two minutes hitting a three to give the Mavericks a lead.

This lead would not hold as Curry put Golden State on his back and went on a 12-point run giving the Warriors the lead.

Ending the run with a step back 3 with 28 seconds remaining capping off the game with his “night, night” celebration and yelling at the cameras “You better stay here” putting Klay’s and the Mavericks hopes of winning to bed.
