Dodgers beat Rockies on Opening Day.

In the long-awaited baseball offseason, that involved a rigorous and impatient lockout, Opening Day has finally arrived for America’s pastime. The Dodgers opened up the 2022 season against the Rockies, beating Colorado 5–3 in a collective effort.

Walker Buehler picked up right where he left off in 2021, winning the game after pitching five innings and surrendering two runs on four hits while striking out five batters.

Craig Kimbrel, who was traded to the Dodgers from the Chicago White Sox on April 1st, earned his first save on Opening Day, giving up an RBI double to Charlie Blackmon in the 9th before striking out Kris Bryant on a knuckle-curve to get the Dodgers and Walker Buehler the first win of the season.

Getting an early lead on the Dodgers, scoring two runs within the 2nd and 3rd inning, the Rockies looked in control early on both ends.

With runners on 2nd and 3rd, the Dodgers were finally able to scratch on the scoreboard with a Gavin Lux single up the middle to bring in two runs and tie the game in the top of the 4th inning.

The Dodgers were able to take the lead with the next batter Mookie Betts, with a double to left field to bring home Lux from first for an RBI double. With Freeman taking a walk on the next at-bat, Trea Turner gave the Dodgers their 4th run in the 4th inning, singling between the infield gap before scoring their final run off a Rockies error.

Freddie Freeman got off to a good start, winning his first game in Dodger blue. Freeman was hit by a pitch, walked, and then lined a single before taking a called third strike late in the 8th in his Dodger debut.
