The Bustling City of Los Angeles
By: Jailyn Mitchell
Los Angeles is a diverse and eccentric area loved by many. From the art on its streets to its people, Los Angeles has a distinct vibe that draws people to it. On Nov. 6, I got to experience the City of Angels by visiting the safaris of the Los Angeles Zoo, eating amazing vegan and vegetarian food and indulging in the greatness of The Last Bookstore.
The Los Angeles Zoo is one of the focal points of Los Angeles and a great spot for families of all ages. As a photographer, I was able to capture the essence of this exotic zoo.
From a staring contest with giraffes to frolicking with flamingos, the Los Angeles Zoo will always be a pleasant getaway during tough times.
After a half-day’s worth of zoo fun, hunger was setting in, leaving me to find a vegetarian restaurant in the area. Using the Happy Cow app, I found a great vegetarian Thai restaurant named Bulan Thai Vegetarian Kitchen. I ordered tofu pad thai, faux shrimp fried rice, spring rolls and faux chicken chow mein. The service and food were terrific and everything was delicious. Due to Coronavirus, I was seated outside, giving us more access to the beautiful environment surrounding me.
My last stop of the evening was the iconic, The Last Bookstore in Los Angeles' Downtown Art District. As soon as I walk into The Last Bookstore, I am thrust into a paper wonderland as books are stacked up on rows and rows of shelves. Endless amounts of books of every genre imaginable engulfing me as I got deeper into the two-story level bookstore. After going far enough upstairs, I ran into a mysterious labyrinth with a book arch made out of repurposed books. Not only is this a bookstore, but it also has a small yarn shop and art museum featuring in-progress artwork.
The City of Angels is home to culture and entertainment. This city gifted me an unforgettable adventure that I will keep close to my heart forever.
