Cities Labeled as ‘Anarchy’ Jurisdictions

As of Monday, September 21, 2020 the Justice Department has labeled three cities- New York City, Portland, Seattle- as “anarchy” jurisdictions on Trump’s orders. The three cities are known for the amount of protesting and riots taking place every day. Leaders of the cities did not want federal intervention, for fear of escalating tension between protesters and law enforcement. Attorney General William Barr supports Trump and says that the cities should not receive any federal funding. Mayors of the three cities argue that cutting federal funding is unconstitutional and would only make matters worse during times of hardship caused by the pandemic.

CDC Reverses COVID-19 Transmissions

The following Monday, the CDC took the post down and said that the information released on Friday was an error. Some scientists argue that the transmission of COVID-19 is possible through aerosols and that the original change on Friday could have led to new public behavior. It is unknown who or how the change was made on Friday and an investigation is still underway.

Environmental Research Downplayed

Scientists all over the world claim that they are pressured to downplay discoveries or simply not make them public. In Australia, 220 scientists who work for the government, at universities and industries took a survey regarding how their work is being downplayed, completely dismissed or modified. Similar surveys have been conducted in other countries as well, such as Canada. With a lot of research being dismissed, scientists claim that the world can be thrown out of balance. Ecologists, such as Don Discroll, argue about the importance of policies to protect the research made by scientists and make information publicly known.
