50,000 People have died from Covid-19 in less than a month
The rate of Covid-19 cases climbing in the United States topping more than 300,000 total deaths, with Covid-19 now killing more than one American every minute. In the past week, an average of 2,403 people has died from Covid-19 everyday in the United States. As the number of Covid-19 cases continue to climb wearing a mask at all times is the recommended thing to do. Wearing a mask is a life saving choice and not a right taken from Americans.

Cleveland Baseball team removes controversial team name
The Cleveland Baseball team announced Monday that the franchise will change the franchise’s team name but will continue to play as the "Indians" until the club decides what their new club name will be. The decision to change the name of the Cleveland baseball team comes at a time when America is understanding and taking action of racist past. Sports teams are beginning to change their names that are associated with a racial term/slur. The Washington Football team removed their offensive and insulting “Redskins” from their team name. Sports teams with names based on Native Americans have been facing pressure to change their names.

COVID-19 vaccinations begin in California
A small group of L.A. health care workers at a Kaiser Permanente in Hollywood was among the first individuals in California to receive the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine on Monday. As the cases for Covid-19 continue to rise in the United States the Pfizer vaccine brings optimism toward the future of the pandemic during this daunting time. The Pfizer vaccine isn’t expected to be available to everyone who wants it until at least the spring. California is planning on receiving roughly 2.1 million doses by the end of the year. The continuation of mandatory mask regulations is more important than ever as Covid cases continue to climb every day.

The Electoral College confirms Biden Wins!
The Electoral College vote confirms Monday that president-elect Joe Biden has received the majority of electoral votes. This officially clinched the presidency for Joe Biden to become the 46th president of the United States. In California, Biden won more than 63% of the statewide vote, while Trump earned about 34%. Democrats have won California’s electoral votes every cycle since 1992. The state voted for Republicans in the six presidential elections before that. Electors are required by law to vote for president and vice president on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December, which this year is today.

US Library of Congress' National Film Registry Adds 25 films
Every year the Librarian of Congress makes the annual selections to the Registry after reviewing thousands of titles nominated by the public. Usually around early December the Librarian of Congress selects 25 films to be added to the Registry. The National Film Registry is a list of films that are considered culturally, historically or aesthetically important that are deemed for preservation. On Monday the Librarian of Congress added 25 films to its registry. Some of those popular films include Grease, Freedom Writers, The Dark Knight, The Blues Brothers and Shrek. There are now 800 film titles total in the National Film Registry.
