4 people stabbed at election protest in Washington
At post-election protests in Washington on Saturday night, four individuals were stabbed and nine people were transported to the local hospital. The four stabbing victims are currently in critical condition. Additionally, eight members of the Metropolitan Police Department were also injured while they were at the protests. In total, 33 people were arrested, one of which a 29-year-old who was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. Although said fights broke out, the majority of the large gatherings had remained mostly peaceful.

The first doses of COVID-19 vaccine in the United States
Trucks and cargo planes with nearly three million doses of the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine were spread out across the country on Sunday. With the vaccine, the United States is trying to turn the tide of the battle against COVID-19, which has killed nearly 300,000 Americans since it has first reached the country. The first doses of the vaccine will go to health care workers who could start receiving it as soon as Monday. Residents of nursing homes are also prioritized and are expected to begin receiving the vaccine next week.

Electors will cast their votes to confirm Joe Biden’s win
Electors from the 50 states and the District of Columbia will cast their ballots, which will confirm that Joe Biden indeed passed the 270 electoral vote mark and will be the 46th president of the United States along with Kamala Harris being the vice president. Despite of this, several rebukes from the Supreme Court, and multiple court dismissals, Donald Trump refuses to accept reality, which is he lost the election. He continues to fight the fact that he lost and puts the country behind his fight to overturn the election in his list of priorities.

The Cleveland Indians set to change their nickname after 105 years
The Cleveland Indians have confirmed that they are dropping their name and changing to a new one after the team has been called the Indians for over a century. This move has been made to remove the Native American imagery from the team amid accusations that the use of it is racist. It is currently unclear whether or not the team will switch to a new name immediately or use a placeholder name, similarly to the Washington Football Team, for the 2021 season. Whatever the Cleveland franchise decides to change its name to, it will require new uniforms, and changes around the stadium, which could take time and delay its implementation.

Due to protections being terminated, Californian renters are at risk of eviction
Californian renters are at risk of eviction as tenant protections are soon to expire. This is concerning due to the deadliest phase of the COVID-19 pandemic so far. California’s emergency rules to pause evictions are to be terminated at the end of January, which could lead to landlords going to court to remove residents who are behind on their rent. However, due to the new stay-at-home order and shutdowns happening once again, tenant groups and lawmakers are pushing for an extension to these protections so that renters are not out on the street while numbers of cases and deaths continue to surge.
