Trump's Unwanted Ally

On Oct. 10 Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, endorsed President Trump in his re-election expressing hopes that he would win in the upcoming election cycle. In a phone interview with CBS news the group explained their wishes for Trump to continue to ease military presence in Afghanistan and their enthusiasm with the administration after a pact made with the Taliban to reduce, and ultimately disperse, the troops stationed there. Though the Trump campaign’s director rejected the endorsement later, during the same interview the Taliban expressed their concerns with President Trump’s health due to him testing positive for COVID-19.

A Day Designed for Mental Health

World Mental Health day is marked on October tenth. Designed to bring awareness to those with and without mental health issues, on this day a multitude of social media platforms and other media outlets amplify resources and support for those facing these issues. Also found are tips for recognizing symptoms for a deteriorating mental state with examples like stress and burnout. Those who have mental health issues are taking this time to share their experiences with their ailments and reaching out to educate on the topics at hand. Overall, this day is a means to destigmatize, bring light to and support the issues surrounding mental health.

Trump Back in The Race

Ten days after his COVID-19 diagnosis, President Trump held his first in person event where he spoke to his supporters regarding a multitude of topics ranging from his three day hospital admittance to the race to the presidency against his democratic opponent Biden. The speech lasted around 18 minutes during which a crowd of about 500 people stood listening outside of the White House lawn. Regarding COVID-19 precautions, Trump did wear a mask stepping out of the White House, but removed it in order to deliver his speech. The attendees were required to wear masks of which most complied, but failed in social distancing.

Louisiana on The Receiving End of Hurricane Delta Winds

Only a day after Hurricane Delta struck Louisiana and other south eastern states, citizens are left to pick up the pieces from the aftermath. Despite being only a category two hurricane, Delta has broken a record for the most landfall in a single season accompanied with winds going an average of 80 mph and even higher 106 mph gusts. The result is a high number of flash floods in residential areas. One of the cities that were impacted, Lake Charles, reported hundreds of homes were completely submerged under water following the night Hurricane Delta struck.

A Win to be Remembered from UFC Fight Island

UFC is hosting their third night of their Return to Fight Island series. The island of Yas located in Abu Dhabi will host the fight as the curators and owners struggled to find a location willing to host the event in the face of COVID-19. All fighters and their crew were subjected to rigorous protocol and testing in order to be sure that the people there would be safe. One of the highlights of the day came from a match between Kasanganay and Buckley when a kick to the face resulted in an immediate knockout from Buckley to his opponent via roundhouse kick to the face at the two minute and 58 second mark.
