Exploring Halotherapy in Redlands Cryo Spa's Himalayan Salt Cave

By Kiya McClenton

Halotherapy is a form of alternative medicine that is often experienced by sitting in a cave-like structure and breathing in salty air. The salt is usually dispensed by a halogenerator, which grinds the salt into microparticles and releases it into the air.

Salt’s anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, and other properties known for relieving skin, respiratory and allergy issues. Halotherapy is a simple form of physical treatment, requiring the participant to simply sit and breathe in the air, and it is often recommended to only do hour-long sessions.

Upon arriving at Redlands Cryo Spa, I was greeted by the friendly attendants who gave me a sign-in sheet as well as a waiver to fill out. I was then led to a door down a hallway lined with large himalayan salt rocks.

Before entering the room, guests must take their shoes off, but socks are optional to keep on; a shelf for personal items was also provided inside the room.

Redlands Cryo Spa’s Himalayan Salt Cave is a very spacious 800 sq. foot room filled with over 17,500 pounds of salt sand and walls lined with even more large himalayan salt rocks. The dimly lit room is filled with the sounds of birds chirping and soft lullaby music, with multiple reclining chairs for guests to sit.

As I walked barefoot through the pink sand, I was reminded of the beach the and peacefulness of the ocean. I sat in a chair and got comfortable as I began feeling relaxed.

With the recent line fire in southern California leading to terrible air quality, many citizens have been experiencing severe respiratory issues, especially those with preexisting medical conditions, such as asthma. As someone who suffers from asthma and was affected by these fires, I felt a significant change as I experienced the salt cave.

My breathing did not feel strained as it has recently been, with my chest feeling a lot less tense. Mentally, I felt at peace, as the ambience took my mind to a calmer place away from the outside world.

Although Redlands Cryo Spa offers walk-ins, it is preferred that guests make reservations about a day in advance for more convenient and fast service; reservations can be made through their website, where their pricing is also available.

After finishing my hour-long session, I returned to the reception area, where the spa offers a variety of self-care products to choose from, such as essential oil infused soaps, diffusers, and himalayan salt products. I used my coupon to purchase a doTERRA essential oil infused bath bar. This soap makes me feel very refreshed as it leaves a hint of eucalyptus and other earthy fragrances.

I left this spa feeling very calm yet energized. The treatments offered at Redlands Cryo Spa leaves every guest feeling renewed as they enter back into the world and their daily lives. A trip to Redlands Cryo Spa's salt cave is essential to any self-care day.
