Arctic Monkeys to release new album after four quiet years
By Salma Calderon
In late August, the Arctic Monkeys blew up fan forums when they quietly announced the October release date of their upcoming album, “The Car”
Four years after their last studio album, "Tranquility Based Hotel & Casino", Arctic Monkeys announced the release of their new album: "The Car", coming on Oct. 21, 2022.
Written by Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner, and producer James Ford, "The Car" comes in a new high quality style. "On this record, sci-fi is off the table. We are back to earth", Turner hinted in the Big Issue Exclusive.
In the summer of 2012 the band began recording with James Ford in Butley Priory, a converted monastery turned venue in rural Suffolk, England. When talking with The Big Issue, Turner mentions that Arctic Monkeys decided to lean away from recording in a traditional studio due to inspiration from some rock-and-roll legends to head in a different direction.
Though the band has advanced into today's culture with a fresh face in the music industry, Turner says they are still going to be true to themselves.
On Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022, the band set off a rave on their online fan forums after performing one of their new songs titled, "I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am," played in their Switzerland concert. Fans were absolutely excited to hear a new song being performed after four years of no new music, according to Rolling Stone UK.
Upon the release of their new announcement and upcoming shows, the band released one of their first singles off the album titled, "There'd Better Be A Mirrorball". The lead single and opening track of the seventh studio album follows the same jazz style format as their last album, "Tranquility Based Hotel & Casino," but is meant to be more down to earth. Following the story of a relationship that was seen to fall with its moody, nostalgic, pop sounds.
Arctic Monkeys advances up to a whole new look that stays true to themselves.
The album features ten new songs ready for release – "There’d Better Be A Mirrorball", "I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am," "Sculptures Of Anything Goes," "Jet Skis On The Moat," "Body Paint," "The Car," "Big Ideas," "Hello You, Mr. Schwartz," and "Perfect Sense" – two of which have already made their own debuts, leaving eight to an anticipated wait, speculating growth that more of these songs will be featured before the release date.
"The Car" is already for pre-order on vinyl, CD, cassette, and a box bundle that includes all three forms of the album with the addition of an exclusive air freshener.
The vinyl comes in the basic black record format, an exclusive custard colored long-playing record and a limited-edition grey vinyl with a mounted gloss covered image.
They are available for pre-order on the Arctic Monkeys' official web store.
There is a long wait ahead for fans as the much-anticipated month could not come any sooner. The Arctic Monkeys Twitter fan forum is constantly looking out for new releases and the latest updates on "The Car."
Arctic Monkeys is touring internationally with appearances in Los Angeles, California from September to November for the first American edition of the Primavera Sound Festival. According to Arctic Monkeys Live, they will end the year with a nine-show run in Sydney, Australia in December.
