The Chaffey Panther’s tipped off their second season game at the Sisterhood of Champions tournament hosted by Pasadena City College.
In a heartbreaking 63-71 loss against Fullerton College yesterday, the Panthers bounced back today in an 89-36 win over the Pasadena Lady Lancers.
Under head Coach Kendyl Rizea, the Panthers have built an exhilarating young new team alongside a handful of returning players who are hungry in seeking their first conference win since 1996.
Freshman Danielle Singley, Alexa Castricone and Aerilynn Young paved the way for the lady panthers, with all three scoring in double digits.
Freshman guard and forward Danielle Singley led the team in scoring finishing with 20 points on 8-20 field goal attempts. Alongside that, Singley grabbed 5 rebounds and had 1 assist.
Guard Alexa Castricone was lethal from three-point range, shooting 6-15 from beyond the arc. The freshman ended the game with 18 points on 38% shooting.
Forward Aerilynn Young was a point of emphasis on both the defensive and offensive ends of the glass. Standing at 5 foot 9, Young grabbed a total of 13 rebounds, finishing with a double-double alongside 18 points.
Coach Rizea had the team set up in a press after every made basket, which contributed to the team's success. The Panthers had a total of 21 steals which resulted in a total of 37 points off of Lady Lancer turnovers.
During the first half of the game, the Panthers held the Lady Lancers to just 14 points, outscoring the team in both the first and second quarters of play. The story continued into the second half of the game, holding the Lady Lancers to just 22 points.
The Panther’s came into this game hungry, putting them at 1-1 for the beginning of the season. They play against Los Angeles Trade Tech next at the Rio Hondo Scrimmage, hoping to continue this winning streak and establish themselves as a dominant and tenacious team.
