Star pitcher, Julio Urias, was arrested on Sep. 3, following a domestic violence incident involving his wife Daisy Perez at the Inter Miami versus Los Angeles Football Club game. This has not been the first arrest for Urias as he was arrested in 2019 under the suspicion of domestic violence, though no charges were filed.
Stadium officials, at first, broke up Urias and Perez. Still, Urias was then spotted pushing Perez into a fence and then getting into a vehicle where he would continue the violence. Police officials then arrested Urias.
Urias was booked at 1 a.m. Sep. 4 and would post the $50,000 bail and was released four hours later. He was placed on administrative leave by league officials two days later.
Urias’ locker has also been replaced. As of recently, Kolten Wong is using the locker space. Urias’ bobblehead night on Sep. 21 has been canceled and replaced with a different giveaway. His murals at Dodger Stadium have also been covered up.
It seems unlikely that the Dodgers will bring back Urias, as the Dodgers had a similar incident with Trevor Bauer. Bauer was suspended in Apr. 2022 for sexual misconduct. The Dodgers would then release Bauer. It seems as if the Dodgers will ultimately let Urias walk in free agency.
The likelihood of Urias pitching again in the major league is unlikely much like the Bauer situation, where no team would sign him, not wanting the fan backlash for signing someone surrounded with controversy.
Urias went from a pitcher with a bright future ahead of him to a pitcher who is now unlikely to ever see a major league mound ever again, and rightfully so. The league has no room for players who commit these crimes and should not allow Urias to pitch for another team again.
