Lakers Are NBA Champions

By: Carlos Yakimowich

It has been a very long wait for Lakers fans everywhere for this beautiful moment. The last championship the Los Angeles Lakers celebrated was in 2010 with the cities dearly missed Kobe Bryant. Kobe Bryant lead the charge for 2010 Los Angeles Lakers team and won the NBA Finals MVP trophy. This marks the 17th NBA Title in Lakers franchise History which ties them for the most titles in NBA history with the Boston Celtics.

The Lakers finished the season and the end of the NBA bubble as the first seed of the Western Conference Finals with a record of 52 wins and only 19 losses. The Lakers final record throughout the NBA bubble playoffs was 16 wins and 5 losses. Beating all three western conference teams Trailblazers, Rockets, and denver Nuggets 4 games to 1. The Lakers came out hot with a 3-1 lead vs the Heat in the finals, Miami battled back to win two games. But it wasn't enough for the Miami Heat to beat the highly talented Laker duo of Lebron James and Anthony Davis and the red hot Lakers team. The Lakers defeated the hard fought Miami Heat 4 games to 2 in a best of 7 series. With one of the greatest offseason trades in Lakers history, the Lakers changed their season around with the acquisition of Anthony Davis last July. Anthony Davis impact helped changed the Lakers whole tone, in the finals Anthony Davis averaged 25.0 points, 10.7 rebounds a game and 2.0 blocks a game. Anthony Davis's presence on the defensive end had a huge impact on the Lakers winning this championship.

Lebron James finished the series averaging nearly a triple double with 29.8 points a game, 11.8 rebounds a game and 8.5 assists throughout the finals. This Laker's championship is Lebron James 4th NBA Finals MVP trophy with three different NBA franchises. Lebron James is the only player in NBA history to win three NBA Finals MVP awards with three different franchise (Heat, Cavs, Lakers). This Finals performance from Lebron James speaks on the type of impactful greatness Lebron has continued throughout his NBA career. His greatness will forever be talked about in NBA history, and he still has more left in the tank to continue his greatness.

Congratulations to the 2020 NBA Champions Los Angeles Lakers!
