Rancho Cucamonga reflects on 2020 and looks ahead to future projects.
Like everyone else around the world Rancho Cucamonga was faced with the effects of the pandemic. Layoffs at City hall with limited services and business closures. Although back in 2020 it was a nightmare, Rancho Cucamonga was at the top of the list receiving the All-American City award earning the recognition of our positives in 44 years. Like curbside pickups, city planners helping dining situations and drive-thru Covid tests. Also allowing assistance to the community through the CARES Act.
19 year old, arrested in murders of Rancho Cucamonga Woman, and her 8 year old daughter.
After a month of intense investigation, San Bernardino County Sheriffs officials took Jacob Wright into custody. The 19 year old was charged with two counts of murder for Jia Jia, 44, and her daughter Ruby Meng. Wright was charged with premeditated attempted murder and first degree burglary. Detectives haven't found any relation between Wright and the victims.
Woman is killed in traffic collision in Rancho Cucamonga
On April 15 Barbra Alice Gillespie, 48 years old resident of Rancho Cucamonga was pronounced deceased after a traffic collision on haven and trademark street. The accident was caused between a Toyota Corolla going south and a Acura traveling east. The Corolla failed to make a complete stop at a red light, killing the driver of the Acura. The driver of the Corolla only sustained an injury and the accident is still under investigation.
Man arrested in connection with sexual battery of 3 girls.
In Rancho Cucamonga, On Mar. 24, a 19 year old was arrested for inappropriately touching 3 girls. Deputies started the investigation on Richard Gonzalez when a call was made from a home regarding sexual battery. A nine-year old came forward addressing to her mom that the neighbor touched her buttocks. An eight-year old girl stepped forward, explaining Gonzalez asked to play hide and seek, then proceeded to hide with the victim and start touching her; the young girl escaped by crawling under a fence and running away. Gonzalez was arrested on suspicion of sexual battery but later posted $550,000 bail.
Rancho Cucamonga man restores 'Big C'
Hidden in the mountains for nearly 20 years, Sherwood Cook brought back the 'Big C' which stands for Chaffey College. Sherwood Cook was looking up hiking trails in his area when he came across a picture of the C in the mountains above Chaffey College near his home in Alta Loma. He then proceeded to hike with his 5 year old Lab/Aussie Shepard mix, Sam. As he hiked to the area he cleared the way of debris and the bush to make the C visible again. Next he will be painting the rocks white to make it more noticeable. The 'Big C' is now back thanks to him!
