1. Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker Testifies Before the House Judiciary Committee

At the House Judiciary Committee Hearing today, acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker testified that he has not discussed the Mueller investigation on the Trump administration and the 2016 election with the President. Whitaker and Chairman Jerry Nadler, a New York Democrat, argued whether acting AG Whitaker could answer questions about conversations between himself and senior White House Officials and the President.

2. Rondo Comes Home to Hit Game-Winner at the Garden

Thursday night, Rajon Rondo hit the game winning shot for the Los Angeles Lakers in overtime at Madison Square Garden to defeat the Boston Celtics. It was the first road win since Lebron James’ return from a groin injury that placed him on the IR for six weeks. The game ended in a 129-128 victory for the Los Angeles Lakers and kept the team above the .500 mark. The Lakers are currently one and a half games back from the eighth seed Los Angeles Clippers as we approach the All Star break.

3. The NBA Trade Deadline

Memphis Grizzlies' career center (C), Marc Gasol, was traded to the Toronto Raptors for Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, C.J. Miles, and a 2024 second-round draft pick. The Los Angeles Clippers dealt Tobias Harris to the Philadelphia 76ers for four draft picks. Two of the four are first round draft picks (including a 2021 pick from the Miami Heat). The other two draft picks are in the second round. The first round draft pick from the 2017 NBA draft out of the University of Washington, Markelle Fultz (SG,PG), got traded to the Orlando Magic. In return, the Philadelphia 76ers received Jonathon Simmons, a first round pick (via Oklahoma City) and a second round pick (via Cleveland).

4. Darndale Father Slain Before Work

In Dublin, Ireland a thirty-eight year old Darndale father of three was shot outside of a house on his way to work. The father of three was treated at the scene before being taken to Beaumont Hospital where he later died. Little is known regarding the shooters' motive. The shooting occurred at Marigold Crescent in northern Darndale at 6:30 a.m. local time. Irish Police have yet to identify the shooter or his motive, but they did find a burnt out 132D Ford Focus on nearby street Greenwood Avenue. Authorities believe the burnt out vehicle to be the suspects getaway car. The victim's partner is believed to be expecting their fourth child while police continue their investigation.

5. Typhus Outbreak Hits Downtown Los Angeles

Typhus Outbreak in downtown Los Angeles infected workers. The outbreak has prompted government officials in LA to consider ripping all of the carpets out of city buildings in downtown Los Angeles. The disease is typically caused by infected fleas traveling via rats, cats and oppossums. The fleas also migrate to the feces of animals they grab onto. There is no vaccine to prevent a typhus infection, however there are antibiotics you can use to treat it.
