1. Michael Jackson's 60th Birthday
Today August 29, 2018 marks the 60th birthday of the well-known pop artist Michael Jackson. Celebrations are taking place to remember the artist, some social media fans are reaching out to Jackson's children . On Instagram one fan left a comment on Prince Jackson's page son of Michael Jackson, demanding a post from him. Prince responded by stating, "I chose to honor him in a different, intimate, and personal way". Both Prince and Paris were expected to appear at a Diamond Birthday Celebration for Michael, sponsored by Sony Music and the Estate of Michael Jackson, at Daylight Beach Club in Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas later in the night reported by Yahoo News.

2. Texas Trailer Manufacturer Immigration Bust
On Tuesday afternoon August 28, 2018 100 undocumented workers were detained in Sumner, Texas during an unexpected immigration raid of the trailer manufacturer ‘Load Trail’. A search warrant was issued after the company received a tip that they had been hiring undocumented workers, including some that were using fraudulent ID documents. According to Katrina Berger a Homeland Security special agent in charge of investigations, more than 300 federal workers were involved. ‘Load Trail’ previously paid a fine of $444,993 fine for “knowingly hiring and continuing to employ unauthorized workers, with an estimated 179 undocumented employees” in 2014 as reported by WFAA. No criminal arrests were made, but that can change as the investigation continues according to Berger. In the meantime, the undocumented workers were being held at detention centers in Dallas and Oklahoma, where they'll be interviewed, fingerprinted and processed for deportation” as stated by ICE.

3. Nickelodeon's beloved 90’s programs live again
On Wednesday August 29, 2018 Ellation, the parent company of VRV which is a streaming service for fan content, announced that it had acquired a majority of the late ‘90s Nickelodeon shows. According to Forbes some shows include Doug, All That and CatDog. In a press release a VRV spokesperson said there will be nearly 30 titles overall streaming on a VRV channel called ‘Nicksplat’. Forbes stated that, they will be available for a limited time on and off. The streaming time is still unknown.

4. Cuomo vs. Nixo
On Wednesday August 29, 2018 New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and former ‘Sex and the City’ Star Cynthia Nixon will face off in a 60 minute debate. According to the New York Times the debate will be held at Hofstra University and displayed on WCBS-TV at 7 p.m. Cynthia Nixon announced her gubernatorial candidacy in March. According to Time Out Cuomo had been hesitant to agree to a formal debate. He did not debate his primary challenger Zephyr Teachout in 2014, and was expected to do the same with Nixon until earlier this month.

5. 4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Southern California
On the evening of Tuesday August 28, 2018 a 4.4 Magnitude earthquake centered in La Verne, shook parts of Southern California. The earthquake occurred at 7:33 PST at a depth of 3.7 miles. According to CBS News the earthquake's epicenter was 25 miles from down town Los Angeles. An aftershock of 3.4 magnitude was reported by the USGS shortly after, with the first quake being felt 40 miles northwest in Sylmar and 30 miles south in Huntington Beach according to CBS News. “No reports of injuries or damage have been made” Says a spokesperson for the La Verne Police Department. The dormitories’ at the University of La Verne were also evacuated as precaution, as stated by a spokesperson for the school, but no damage was found.
