1. Chick-fil-A Helps Teen Find A Prom Date

Tanner Waters a 17- year old from Winter Springs, Florida, unexpectedly got help from Chick-fil-A to find a date for his senior prom. Waters asked his manager Billy McClarnon if he would like to be his date, to which McClarnon refused and came up with a better idea. According to Today, McClarnon added these words to the marquee outside, “Taniner needs a prom date! Details inside.” As a result, Waters received various prom date offers he wasn’t expecting. The sign also gained the teen a lot of attention on twitter.

2. 5.3 Earthquake Strikes Southern California

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake hit near the Channel Islands at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday April 5 ,2018. According to Los Angeles Times, the earthquake did not cause major damage since it hit in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Given the magnitude of the quake, it did cause minor landslides on the Santa Cruz Island and upset an eagle nearby whose reaction has since gone viral. John Vidal the director of the Southern California Earthquake Center at USC, says the quake was detected in the state’s developing earthquake early warning system 10-15 seconds prior to the hit.

3. Don Jones Plunges After Trump and China Trade War Threats

The White House released a statement on Thursday April 5, 2018, in which President Donald Trump was considering putting tariffs on China’s annual imports that can add up to $100 billion. According to business insider, China answered back on Friday April 6, 2018 with this statement, “China's ministry of commerce said it would immediately retaliate if the "arrogant" US imposed the sanctions. They also said the country would not rule out any options. The trade war between the two countries has affected the stock market with Dow Jones dropping 600 points since the threats were made.

4. Carrie Underwood Shows Her Face for The First Time Since Surgery

The first full face photo of singer/songwriter Carrie Underwood, came two days after she posted a half-faced portrait on Social Media. On Friday April 6, 2018, the singer posted a photo of herself standing on a stage clenching a microphone while rehearsing with her band. According to People Music, Underwood has kept selfies and pictures to a minimum since her fall outside of her house last November which sent her to the emergency room. Fans were excited to see her media presence again since her surgery that required 40-50 stitches on her face as well as a wrist surgery.

5. Johnson & Johnson Hit with a $37 Million Lawsuit

Stephen Lanzo, 40, is suing the Johnson & Johnson company on the charges that the J&J baby powder has exposed him to cancer-causing fibers asbestos. According to USA Today, Lanzo has been inhaling the baby powder dust through proper use from 1972 to 2003, and has developed mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer that attacks the respiratory system and possibly the heart, due to asbestos fibers. The court ruled Lanzo be given $30 million and his wife $7 million. Further investigation is being conducted and Johnson & Johnson company is withholding from further comments until the court ruling is fully completed.
