Lakers bounce back with tight win over the Spurs.
After coming off a disappointing 24 point loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Lakers bounced back into the win column from a dominating 34 point performance from Anthony Davis to move the Lakers record to 8–6 and move past the San Antonio Spurs 114–106.
The Lakers shooting percentage from the field was a huge spotlight to today's win over the Spurs, shooting 48% (15–31) from three and 52% (43–83) overall from the floor.
In today's eight-point win over the Spurs, Anthony Davis' dominance helped uplift the Lakers with a huge performance scoring 19 points in the first quarter, ending the night with 34 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 assists. Davis finished shooting nearly 60% shooting from the field, going 14 for 24 (58%) from the floor and 2 for 3 (66%) from beyond the arc.
Head coach Frank Vogel spoke on Davis' impact in tonight's win, saying: "Anthony wanted to impose his will on this game. He was, as much as anyone, unhappy with the last game."
In his first start for the Lakers this season, Carmelo Anthony was able to bring the energy he usually brings from the bench into the Lakers starting lineup, scoring 15 points in 30 minutes.
After missing the first thirteen games to a right thumb injury, Talen Horton-Tucker made his Lakers debut, scoring 17 points on 7 for 14 (50%) shooting from the field in his return. Frank Vogel spoke on Horton-Tucker's return from injury, saying:
"He looked really good. He puts a lot of pressure on the rim, which helps everything for us offensively. It's great to have him back on both sides (of the ball)."
Vogel spoke more on Horton-Tucker, more so on what the Lakers will do with his role moving forward, saying: "He's going to be a big part of what we do. We invested in him this summer for a reason. We believe in that young man."
The Lakers will play tomorrow at 7 PM against the 8–4 Chicago Bulls and face former Laker Alex Caruso, returning to Staples Center for the first time in a new uniform.
