Lakers 10-0 road game record comes to an end with late game loss to the 76ers.
The Lakers franchise record 10 game win streak came to an end tonight in a late game loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. After a beautiful drawn up play to put the Lakers up one with 11.2 seconds left, Tobias Harris ended the night with a game winning elbow jumper to bring the Lakers undefeated road record to an end with a 107 to 106 victory.
Struggles came everywhere for the Lakers tonight. They couldn’t hit a shot from the perimeter in the first half, going 1–11 (9%) from 3 to end the half. The Lakers finished tonight’s loss going 8 for 24 (33%) from 3, with 5 of their 3s coming later in the 4th quarter. From the free throw the Lakers shot 64% total going 16 for 25.
After going off for a season high 56 points, Lebron James finished again with great numbers in tonight’s 1 point loss to the 76ers. Scoring a game high 34 points on 12 of 22 (22%) shooting with 6 rebounds and 6 assists in 38 minutes.
Outside of his free throw shooting tonight, Anthony Davis had a solid game scoring. In 34 minutes Davis had 23 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks while shooting 9 for 18 (50%) from the field. Davis went 5 for 10 (50%) from the free throw and talked about his free throw shooting as of late after tonight’s game saying:
“At this point, it’s just all mental. it’s nothing I’m really worried about.”
Lebron James had some words with the media after tonight’s loss about Anthony Davis struggles shooting and his offensive rhythm as of late.
“Missed some shots that he’s accustomed to making. I think AD is in a pretty good rhythm right now and I think every game is getting better & better for him, but it’s our job to give him the ball & I thought we did a good job at times. At times, we did not.”
Other struggles came from the Lakers bench, as they finished with 22 points total in tonight’s loss to the 76ers. Montrezl Harrell, who has been a spark plug for this Lakers team off the bench, finished with 0 points in 14 minutes tonight. Snapping a 10 game streak of double figures in the scoring column for Harrell.
Despite the struggles in tonight’s game the Lakers showed heart tonight. Not giving and coming back from multiple double digit deficits throughout tonight’s contest. In the final 3 minutes of tonight’s loss the Lakers went on a 14 to 2 run. They showed no quit as they came back from a 105 to 93 deficit with 3 minutes left. The Lakers only lost by 1 point in a game where they struggled in areas where they don’t usually struggle in.
Frank Vogel spoke on the Lakers late game surge to come back into the game tonight.
“We never believed we couldn’t get back into the game. Tobias Harris hit a great shot against good defense. We didn’t do enough throughout the course of the game to put ourselves in position to win, but it was a heck of a fight down the stretch.”
With tonight’s loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, the Lakers now move to a record of 14–5 and are now in second place in the Western Conference behind the 14–4 Utah Jazz.
The Lakers will face the Detroit Pistons tomorrow with both teams coming off back to back games. The Pistons are 4 and 14 and are coming off a huge loss to the Cavaliers. Look for both teams to redeem themselves coming off a loss and determined to bounce back game tomorrow night.
