Attorneys for Chaffey College are researching state and local administrative policies as well as education codes to determine the laws and policies governing intellectual property (IP) as it relates to students. Currently, community colleges in California do not have extensive IP policies specifically designed to address material that students may create at community colleges.

A brief look into the first class of the Inventions and Inclusive Innovation at Chaffey College which launched in 2021. Professors Mark Padilla and Brian Atkinson lead the program through a collaboration with Lemelson-MIT and the US Department of Education Title III Grant.

Carlos Osorio, Ph.D., is a consultant at the Invention and Inclusive Innovation (I3) project in conjunction with the Lemelson-MIT Program at Chaffey College. In a Zoom interview, Osorio reflects on his journey towards his successes and the sacrifices of balancing work and life at home; he also answers what brought the question of enabling innovation.
