Francisco Hermosillo has been a student at Chaffey College for two years now. He is currently majoring in Journalism and he's planning on expanding his journalism skills into the music industry where he would be shedding light on up-and-coming artists. Hermosillo is a bright student and a brilliant young man whose dream is very inspirational and worth being in the light as well. His life, although rough and at times difficult to bear, has proved that pain can be turned into something good if you allow it to.

Back in 2016, Francisco Hermosillo had been admitted to the University of California Irvine.

Francisco said reassuringly, “UCI was a great school and te first semesters I was focused on and passing all my classes with straight A’s. However, problems just seemed to follow me wherever I go. I didn’t realize that my absence in my house really affected my younger brother, so much so that he was hospitalized and was later diagnosed with anorexia."

Not being able to leave the troubles from his family behind really affected his ability to focus on schoolwork, which in turn affected his grades and it eventually affected his status at UCI. After being in UCI for only a few semesters, he decided he could no longer stay there due to family issues that were becoming too much to bear alone in the university. He took a year off so that he could spend some time with his family and refocus on his academics. He enrolled in Chaffey for the spring semester of 2018, where he started taking all sorts of journalism courses. It was then discussed whether these classes were towards the career option he had planned on pursuing. Francisco said that journalism wasn't his original choice but that his plans changed when circumstances, both personally and academically, had worsened.

Francisco said, “Someday in the future, I want to become a journalist in the music industry. Not only would I be interviewing music artists and keeping track of trends in music styles and genres, but my end goal is to become a voice for small artists. I can amplify the voices of up-and-coming artists whose voices may have not been heard yet so that they can reach their career goals as music artists.”

The way Francisco talked about his new interest in wanting to become a journalist in the music industry showed that he had developed a real passion for it. The reason behind it was rather unexpected, however.

With a calm voice and a slight grin on his face, “I’ve had a rough childhood, and not that everyone doesn’t but I mean my childhood wasn’t so great. My biological father was abusive with my mother and my siblings and I had to experience that pain at a very young age so it really starts to affect you as you’re growing up. As I grew older, the circumstances surrounding my family never really got better. It got to the point that going to college served more as an escape from my current reality rather than what I wanted for my future.”

Francisco stated that his brother had another relapse recently but that he was okay now. Francisco also shared that he felt some guilt for what had happened to his brother when left for UCI because his younger brother probably felt like he was being abandoned by his older brother as well. With all that had happened with Francisco's family and with Francisco himself, he said that “music has been an escape from my crazy life. It helped me to cope with certain situations that I couldn't run from and it also helped me numb emotions that I didn't want to feel anymore. Music had such an unbelievably important influence in my life that now I am pursuing it as my career goal and I couldn't be any happier with my choice.”

Francisco explained to me that he wants to become a reporter in the music industry, where not only is he writing about music but he’s also finding small artists that aren’t very well known so that he can shed some light on them.

He stated, "Just like how these artists helped me cope with what was going on in your life, I feel like I want to be a voice for them to be heard as well. I feel like it's something I owe to these artists and therefore it's something that I want to dedicate my life to."

Francisco's main goal for the rest of the year is to just improve his academics and work on his career goal as a music influencer, where he hopes to become a very renowned writer for music artists.
