Student Speaks: The Breeze and Its Purpose

By Alyssa Torres

The Breeze is Chaffey College’s independent student newspaper organization. Our purpose is to teach journalism while highlighting professional and academic aspects of a free press. We’re a digital news source accessible 24/7 through our website, and once a year we go to print where you can pick up one of our magazines around campus.

As our goal is to teach journalism, we’re an excellent resource for students aspiring to enter the field. The perks of being an independent student newspaper organization is that students will gain hands-on experience in pitching, reporting, and editing stories. They can also run for managing and editing positions. While we are a great fit for journalism students, we are welcoming to anyone who wants to write stories for The Breeze.

As said before, students are able to run for editing and managing positions. This year we have an outstanding team behind The Breeze. To start with we have our Editor-in-Chief Lionel Getten, along with our Managing Editor Kaylee Fullington, and Copy Editor Kiya McClenton. Then we have our desk editors; Angel Gomez (Opinions), Alex Rojas (Art & Entertainment), Jamila Roxas (Sports), and Jose Pereida (Multimedia). We also have our Social Media Manager Alyssa Torres. Last but not least, we have Nate Gosney as our Journalism Program Assistant and Ian Jones as our Journalism professor.

The Breeze also covers food & travel, features, business, life & style, and news, along with photo essays and podcasts. As you can see we cover a wide range of topics.

Interested in joining? We meet every Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Wargin Hall, room 071, at Chaffey's Rancho campus. To our readers, we hope you continue to enjoy reading our stories. Stay updated by following us on social media @thebreezepaper and subscribe to our newsletter.
