Getting Involved At Chaffey College
By: Thomas Davila
Last year Chaffey College transitioned to online education due to COVID-19. Since then, students are unable to return to in-person classes, and even services that students need are taking place online. What about events that were normally held at all in Chaffey College? Have they also gone virtual? Events like club rush and all workshops have transitioned online as well.
If you check your Chaffey Panther email regularly, you would have gotten an email promoting specific workshops and other events that are going on virtually at Chaffey. The college has held two workshop within the last two weeks; the first virtual event was a mental health workshop, Advocating for Yourself. How to manage your anger, managing your time with things that are going on in your life, self-advocacy (to have the confidence in the things that you are doing), actively listenIng, having a network or support system, and picking your battles when working in an group were discussed. In the balance workshop, it touched on time management with school, roles that may be going on in your life, setting short and long-term goals for yourself. These workshops are sponsored by College Wrap.
College Wrap is a division of South Coast Community Services. The "Wrap" part of their name is in reference to the "Wraparound" concept of providing service to people that are in need. These workshops are moderated by Chaffey College Student Life Coordinator Sonia Juarez, Tanya Tobing and Danielle Stettler of South Coast Community Services.
We are now in February and Chaffey College had a major event for students that was held virtually on February 10th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Chaffey College brought for the first time ever: Club Rush. Through clubs students can get more involved with Chaffey. For more information please contact Sonia Juarez at sonia.juarez@chaffey.edu.
In addition to Club Rush, Chaffey College has more upcoming workshops throughout this month.
