New Year, New Music

By: Thomas Davila

Last year had high points that were followed by many lows for some people. 2021 is just getting started and it is starting off with more of the same. Concerts and festivals have been shut out for a second year in a row. Even though these concerts are getting the axe once more music artists are still managing to put out their albums. Here is a look at the most anticipated albums of 2021 according to Rolling Stone.

To start off the list is an artist who Rolling Stone says,

"Thrives on a steady stream of attention from the world," and that artist is none other than Drake.

His album titled, "Certified Lover Boy," was announced via trailer, in which we see Drake's albums flash before our eyes. The release date for Drakes album is yet to be determined. It is believed the album will be released sometime this year.

Next on the list is a band that formed shortly after Kurt Cobain committed suicide which led to the Grunge Rock band Nirvana's disbanding. Foo Fighter released their tenth studio album, "Medicine at Midnight" on Feb. 5. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters say the album is about all six members of the band letting out their pop side.

Next up we have new music from Lorde. Rolling Stone says that Lorde is set to release a book of photos from her trip to Antarctica, title "Going South," she also said that the trip that she took in 2019 also helped inspire her to write new music. The untitled album does not have an official release date but is slated to be released sometime this year.

Next on the list is someone that was briefly mentioned earlier. That artist is Adele. It has been over five years since her last album was released. It is safe to say that her long awaited yet to be named album will be released sometime this year.

Lana Del Rey's next album is set to be released on March 19. The album is called "Chemtrails Over the Country Club". The album was scheduled to go out last year, but due to the ongoing pandemic those plans were halted.

Late last year, Sade said that the band had been recording new material for the yet to be named album. In addition to a new album, the band is thinking about going on tour in support of the album once it is safe to do so. Sade has not set a release date for the album.

Last on the list is none other than Ed Sheeran. On Dec. 24 2019, Sheeran announced that he was taking a break, telling his many fans,

"I have been a bit nonstop since 2017 so I am going to take a breather to travel, read and write. I will be off social media until it is time to come back."

Sheeran is releasing an album some time in 2021. The release date nor the title of the album have not been announced as of yet.
