Cyber Security Conversation with Professor David Nimri
By Wayne Davis
David Nimri is the Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems, Computer Science and Cybersecurity here at Chaffey College. He started here at Chaffey College as a part-timeprofessor, and with time and hard work, became an Associate Professor. Students who have majored in the field of computers have had the opportunity to be taught by him. He is passionate about his profession, teaching students, helping them grow and seeing them achieve their goals. Nimri was able to share his time with me and answer a few questions about the Cyber Security program.
I was able to see the enthusiasm and excitement on his face to answer questions about the Cyber Security program, where it is and what his vision for it is in five years. We talked about the state of the Cyber Security Program currently at Chaffey College. Nimri said, “there has been significant growth in the Cyber Security, Computer Information System and the Chaffey College Career Pathway”.
Nimri continued to share his thoughts on the programs, “the growth would be larger, but there is a need for more professors to teach the students”. He feels there is a great need for more professors to meet the needs of the many students who want to progress with their career pathway in the computer sector.
When asked, where does he see the Cyber Security program in five years, the following thoughts were share with me. “I would like to see the program growth through obtaining more teachers. This will allow for the startup of programs such as having classes teaching AI and Data Analytics. The school will be able to setup apprenticeship programs and be able to mentor high school students to have them ready for when they enroll in Chaffey College.” He sees the computer industry as an ever-changing and growing industry, with the potential for endless possibilities.
This was a very exciting conversation and interview to have with him. I have been a student here at Chaffey College for the past three years as a Cyber Security Major. I have had the pleasure of being a student of his for six classes. He has shared a lot of time, knowledge and understanding of the Cyber Security fields I would like to eventually end up working in. He teaches with a lot of happiness and eagerness. He stated, “I donate a lot of my time to teaching and helping students. I volunteer time to start a cyber club and continue to help those in need of more help. I get great happiness to help my students grow and enjoy learning.”
As a current student of his, I can attest to the value of Nimri’s teaching style, which fosters a supportive learning environment. He teaches with care, is understanding and wants to see all his students make it to where they want to be. I will be graduating soon from Chaffey College with a degree in Cyber Security. I have enjoyed my time learning and attending Chaffey College. I can safely say, the state of the Cyber Security program at Chaffey College is good and growing.
