Losing “The Best” and Remembering Tina Turner

On May 24, 2023, the music scene and the world lost the 'Queen of Rock'n Roll,' Tina Turner. We remember her legacy and the art she left behind.

Aftering suffering from long-term illness, the legend and ‘Queen of Rock’n Roll,’ Tina Turner, passed away in her Switzerland home at 83. The announcement was made on Turner’s official Facebook page at 11:45 AM PST Wednesday, May 24, 2023. In a statement, Turner’s publicist Bernard Doherty said, “With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”

Turner performed one of the most memorable and legendary comebacks in the music industry after leaving her ex-husband. In the 1980s, Turner released massive hits like “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” “Private Dancer” and “Simply the Best.” Over the course of her career, Turner sold-out stadium tours worldwide and sold over 180 million albums, winning 12 Grammy awards along the way.

Tributes have been pouring out across the internet to express sympathies for the recently passed star and her family. Turner has left a deeply impacting legacy through her art and her commitment to telling her story. Turner’s legacy has been immortalized through memoirs like "I, Tina" and the 1993 film, "What’s Love Got to Do with It." She will live on in the hearts of millions across the globe.
